Variable nozzle spray desuperheater offers custom integral plugs, eliminating the need for separate coolant valves.

Mascot’s variable nozzle spray desuperheater(VSD) stands out with a remarkable turndown ratio, adjusting the spray water with the built-in control valve. This solution ensures consistent atomization across all flows due to a constant nozzle pressure drop.

It features a swirling hollow cone spray pattern for water exit at a higher velocity and better atomization. The size ranges from 0.5″ to 4″ in the water inlet line, with pressure ratings of 150# to 4500#. This desuperheater’s versatile design accommodates various steam pipelines with no size limitation, delivering an impressive turndown ratio of 80:1.

Variable nozzle desuperheater provides valves with constant water pressure to create a fine conical spray into the steam main.

DeFlo VSD – Variable Spray Desuperheater
  • Probe Type Design: The nozzle is not suspended into the steam line and only and does not protrudes into the steam to ensure that the pipe geometry isn’t changed, eliminating undue stresses generated by conventional desuperheaters.
  • Variable Spray Technology: The VSD offers a true variable spray pattern, ensuring uniform, stable and accurate temperature control unlike the competing multiple nozzle spray desuperheaters where the spray increases in a step-like manner causing uncontrollability issues and fluctuation in outlet temperature.
  • Probe Injection: As opposed to the conventional multiple nozzle desuperheaters where water is injected from the center of the steam line by protruding the desuperheater into the steam line the VSD’s probe type installation makes sure that the pipe geometry isn’t changed and avoids any thermal stresses or vibrations generated as a result of the protrusion into the steam line.
  • Instant Evaporation: The nozzle is so designed that the velocity of the water increases before it enters the throttle point so as to ensure that the Vena Contracta is closer to the injection point, ensuring that the atomized water is instantly vaporized into the steam line protecting it from any water hammering or pitting.
  • Precise Temperature Control: Since there is a single nozzle with a varying orifice area, the quantity of water increases proportionally with the opening of the desuperheater, resulting in precise control of the temperature of the superheated steam, ensuring it meets the required process conditions.
  • Ease of Installation: Designed for easy integration into existing steam systems, allowing for convenient installation and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Energy Efficiency: Aims to contribute to energy efficiency by maintaining steam temperatures at desired levels, optimizing overall system performance.
